Tell us about what you do at MindSpring.
I’m a Senior Recruiter at MindSpring and I work closely with our clients in the financial services industry here in Chicago. In my role, I use my staffing and recruiting experience to observe organizations and professionals to find the best match and ensure everyone has a great experience throughout the hiring process.
What do you find most interesting about working with the MindSpring team?
I enjoy guiding people through career changes and finding them exciting new job opportunities. It’s really rewarding work.
How does MindSpring support your career and personal goals?
MindSpring has supported my career growth in several ways. They’ve allowed me to grow and develop new skills in my role, while also ensuring a healthy work-life balance for our entire team. That’s really important to me and is something that sets MindSpring apart from other staffing firms.
What’s the #1 quality you feel is important to achieving success in the staffing industry?
Patience and persistence! You need both to succeed in this industry.
What is a unique trait or something that differentiates you from other recruiters out there?
I’m great at listening. I spend time getting to know my candidates so I can understand what they’re really looking for. That helps me find them opportunities and organizations that align with their career goals and values.
What’s the biggest benefit to partnering with a staffing firm in a job search?
Partnering with a staffing firm has lots of benefits, but I think one that is key is using the staffing firm or your recruiter as a sounding board. We’re here to help people and we can provide insight and context that candidates would not get if they’re searching on their own. We can also help job seekers negotiate when they get an offer, so they know they’re getting compensated fairly.
If you could give one piece of advice to a client/candidate, what would it be?
My advice is the same for both my clients and candidates – be open to taking on risk. There’s a quote by author Andre Gide that really speaks to this. He said, “You cannot discover new oceans unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore.” Risk is necessary for organizations hiring talent and for candidates seeking a new role. It might seem scary at first, but it opens up new possibilities in the end.
What’s your favorite thing to do in Chicago?
I love Chicago in the summer. There’s so much to do and it’s easily accessible. The highlights for me are the sporting events and food here.
Do you have a unique skill?
I’m good at trivia and like to find interesting facts which is how I ended up as the official MindSpring Trivia Master. Every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon I lead the entire team in a “Trivvy break”.
What else do you want to share about yourself?
I’ve been with MindSpring for almost 5 years!
(Happy early anniversary, Ty!)
